Dark Ascension is written and performed by the players, and we respect and encourage all types of people to bring their passion and creativity to the game, the world, and the story.
Safety and Consent
Safety
At Dark Ascension, safety is paramount. We want all of our players to feel safe and in control of themselves and their own personal situation at all times, regardless of what chaos might be ensuing in the game world. For this to be possible, consent must be informed and continuous. In role-play and interpersonal activities, both in and out of actual game play moments, consent means understanding and respecting every individual’s right to their own physical, emotional and mental boundaries, and the informed communication, permission, and trust required to engage in any activity that pushes these boundaries.
Respect
It is crucial that in all role-play, especially that involving combat and tense emotional, mental, and physical moments, players perform every action from a place of respect: respect for others players emotional, physical, and mental limits to comfort and respect for the game itself, including an understanding that the ultimate goal of the game is to tell a great story and for everyone to have a great time.
Communication
Informed consent requires excellent communication. Dark Ascension prides itself on fostering and enforcing interpersonal communication that is open and honest, and thus provides a space where our players can feel safe to role play dramatic interpersonal situations that may be emotionally, mentally or physically tense or violent. These situations require the continued informed consent of all participants, which can in most cases be done without breaking role-play. If, however, there is any confusion, ask directly or do not proceed.
